QR 600,000 raised for local charity by RasGas’ Annual Golf event
As part of RasGas' ongoing commitment to the local community, a staggering QR 600,000 was raised for one of its nominated charities. The funds were raised as a result of the generosity of guests, employees and golf professionals who participated in the 2008 RasGas Charity Gala Dinner and Pro Am Golf Tournament.
Now in its third year, this three day charity event remains an integral element of RasGas' Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme with all proceeds for this 2008 event benefiting the Qatar Society for the Rehabilitation of Special Needs.
The Charity Gala Dinner, as the opening event, took place on Wednesday 6th February at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Doha. More than 300 guests, including His Excellency Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Al Thani, Chairman of the Qatar Society for the Rehabilitation of Special Needs, RasGas' shareholders, customers, suppliers and contractors, along with key employees, reached deep into their pockets for the charity auction and raffle prizes.
In the space of two hours, 23 golf teams and exceptional auction items ranging from a trip to New York and a year's membership at Doha Golf Club went under the hammer. Proceeds from the auction and raffle ticket sales of items, generously donated by key RasGas'contractors and suppliers, will go towards improving the quality of life for the children and young people who attend the Qatar Society for the Rehabilitation of Special Needs.
On the night, Mr Hamad Rashid Al Mohannadi, RasGas Managing Director (CEO), welcomed guests stating "Now in its third year, this wonderful charity event has grown in strength and stature. I am proud to say that since its inaugural debut, the RasGas Pro Am Golf Tournament and its associated Charity Gala dinner has made a positive impact to many worthy causes in Qatar.
RasGas are delighted and proud to once again support the Qatar Society for the Rehabilitation of Special Needs as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility programme and we thank the generosity of our guests and employees for their continued support".
Speaking on behalf of the Qatar Society for the Rehabilitation of Special Needs, Ameer Al Mula, Executive Manager, expressed his gratitude saying, "I cannot thank RasGas enough for the wonderful work they are doing in the community and the generous contribution they and their guests have made through this Charity Gala Dinner. As a result of their support, we will now be able to provide the children at the Society with new specially equipped buses and physical therapy equipment in 2008".
Following the Charity Gala Dinner, the RasGas Pro Am Golf Tournament teed off at Doha Golf Club on Thursday 7th February with over 22 teams of four players participating. Each team comprised one professional golfer, one RasGas host and two VIP guests representing RasGas' key customers, suppliers, shareholders and business associates.
The Pro Am was played as a four ball better ball with one score to count. The team of Colin Ferguson, professional golf player, Charlie Yester representing Noble Drilling, Jerry D. Kurinsky from Schumberger, and led by Eigil Eide, RasGas Integrated Technology Manager, topped off a big day by winning the tournament with a score of 58 strokes.
Before handing over the trophies to the winners, Mr Tom Mc Hale, Chairman of the RasGas Golf Committee and RasGas Group Finance Manager, congratulated the winning teams and expressed his thanks to everyone who participated in the event, including the various local companies for sponsoring a number of the special prizes.
