Doha, Qatar – 5 September, 2016: RasGas Company Limited (RasGas) received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification under the Existing Building Operation and Maintenance (O+M) rating system for the RasGas Headquarters’ (RGHQ) in Palm Tower-A building at West Bay, Doha. RasGas Headquarters is the first building facility in the State of Qatar to achieve the LEED-O+M certification according to United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

Achieving LEED Gold certification validates RasGas’ commitment to sustainability, and highlights the company’s success in implementing practical and measurable strategies aimed at achieving high performance in the operation and maintenance of RGHQ.

RasGas’ Chief Management Services Officer, Omar Abdulla Al Misnad, stated, “At RasGas we have a strong environmentally conscious culture in all our operations. The LEED certification represents the company’s forward-looking approach to sustainability, from site development and material selection, to implementing strategies for energy efficiency, saving water and enhancing the indoor environmental quality.”

The certification efforts were led by RasGas’ Facilities Management team working closely with the landlord, Al Mirqab Real Estate Company, and Facilities Management’s service providers.

LEED is the most widely used third-party verification for green buildings. The rating system, developed by the USGBC, evaluates and rates buildings that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health performance. In 2012, RGHQ became Qatar’s first Gold certified building in the Commercial Interiors category for implementing sustainability best practices in the design and fit-out phase.

“With each new LEED-certified building, we get one step closer to USGBC’s vision of a sustainable built environment within a generation,” said Rick Fedrizzi, Chief Executive Officer and Founding Chair of USGBC. “As a member of the LEED family of green buildings, RasGas is an important addition to the growing strength of the green building movement in Qatar, and we look forward to the commitment to ongoing certification of the RasGas headquarters.”
